I always wondered about how a guitar actually works. In the case of an electric, how the pick ups work to create different sounds and what type of aft-market pick ups are available to create different sounds.

I can change a set of strings easily enough, but I dont know a thing about set up, tonation, bridge adjustments, how one might eliminate some fret buzz or any of the most common maintenance issues we run into on acoustic or electric guitars.

I know many musicians "tweek" their equipment here and there. Admittedly, they are experienced musicians who have been playing for quite some time. Perhaps, for a novice, "tweeks" should be left to qualified luthiers, but it would sure be nice to know how "set ups" are done. How a "fast" action is created and how it impacts tone, for example.

I guess maybe what I am looking for is informative video about guitar maintenance with an emphasis on what adjustments would be safe and within reason for a beginner or intermediate to attempt vs. those that should definately be left to a qualified luthier.

This might save some trips to the luthier and a few bucks which could be aptly spent on what else???....why of course......another guitar or two.... :) Thx...

there are 3 things I would really like to learn:

first is advanced 2 handed tapping, like played in bands like : Minus the bear, This Town Need Guns, Six gallery....so not this metallish kind of stuff were everything is distorted but different....

2nd is advanced muting. just every muting possible.

and 3rd is every possible effect created with delaypedals.
because it seems there are so many distinct sounds you can create that way.

thank you:)
