Les Paul is a legand and a Hall of Famer. He was an inventor, musician, song writer and a rebel with a cause, that is to make music open to all styles. Music is the best way to express ones feelings.
Thank You Les Paul, you will be missed.

I started a discussion on ALL COUNTRY entitled " How Do You Remember Les Paul". His stature as a musician and more is legendary. I think he is well remembered and some discussion and reminiscing is timely due to his recent passing. Grant.

Les Paul died August 13, 2009. He would be about 94. He pioneered the development of the solid body electric guitar and therefore rock and roll music as we know it. He had several pop style hits it the fifty's, duets with his wife. He was a great musician and also an inventor. Les is compared to Chet Atkins for talent and definitely for uniqueness of style. He was a super talented musician who just wanted to be remembered as a good ol' guitar player. That he was! Grant.

Drew, I just joined. I grew up on Old Country and Old Rock n Roll music. One of my first songs I learned to play on the guitar was Big River by Johnny Cash. Merle Haggard is my favorite artist. You asked a question if anyone has heard the Carter Family? Yes, I have. I live about 30 miles from Bristol, Tn. The birthplace of country music, not Nashville. The Carter Family performed their songs in Bristol. I give credit to the Carters for creating country music. The Carters are from Virginia. There homeplace is still around and is called Carter's Foe. Every saturday night there is music being performed at the Carter's homeplace. Acoustic music only. No electric instruments or amps allowed.
I'm not to kean on Bluegrass. Am I still allowed to join?

So, Drew. Who is your grandfather? Not many can say they were invited to sing on the Opry. Also, Matt. You should listen to David Alan Coe's rendition of "The Perfect Country And Western Song", especially the last verse. It should answer all your questions. Grant.

Listen to country... The more you listen to it, the more you'll "hear" it for writing. That's all I can come up with.

Agreed. My Grandfather was actually asked to sing on the Grand Ole Opry twice, but couldn't make it. I guess that's where I inherited my taste for "old country".
